Beliefs, behaviours and outcomes are three variables that integrate and overlap in a continuum of multiple and reciprocal influence.
The interrelationship between beliefs, behaviours and outcomes
Beliefs are the foundation and the deepest part of what inspires our behaviours, which most accurately define us as people.
Knowing where our behaviour, our way of proceeding, comes from, we are in a position to rethink or question the belief or beliefs that sustain it, especially if we are not getting the results we want to achieve.
«You have ideas, you have beliefs», Ortega y Gasset
Beliefs are imposed automatically, they are difficult to dismantle, and at the same time they mark our way of acting and proceeding in life in a crucial way, they are the ones that support our capacities. Beliefs, therefore, are very powerful elements that influence what we are, what we think, what we do and the results we obtain.
It is therefore advisable to reflect, analyse and contrast the extent to which the beliefs we have are helping or hindering our personal effectiveness, and here an ontological coach can make a difference.
An example of the power of beliefs is reflected in the so-called pygmalion effect or self-fulfilling prophecy. What we think and expect of people influences what people think and expect of themselves. Similarly, what we think and expect of ourselves influences our own ability to act effectively.
In short, «if you think you can, you're right, and if you think you can't, you're right».
What is your belief and how does it lead you to act, and what does it enable you to achieve?
