Sanitas highlights the emotional impact of work together with EEC Consultoria

3 October 2023

In the second edition of the online event 'EEC Corporate Talks', Eva Fernández Aparicio, head of talent and leadership at BPA Sanitas, shared her experience together with EEC Consultancy, focusing especially on projects in old people's homes.

The Sanitas EEC Consultancy collaboration arose in order to responding to the emotional and professional impact of the pandemic and took the form of a training programme adapted to the specific needs of social workers.

The programme, as explained by the programme manager during the webinar, considered relevant content such as the emotion management and conflict managementand also the logistics and preferred format of training, leading to the decision to implement a new hybrid approach which culminated in a face-to-face session.

The combination, as Eva Fernández Aparicio recounted, proved to be a success, "offering workers a space to connect, share experiences, and reflect on their purpose and vital role in the organisation".

The impact of the programme on women social workers

The specialist and speaker shared several points of positive assessment highlighted by the protagonists of the project themselves, the social workers:

1. Peer-to-peer connectionDespite being scattered across the country, the programme allowed the workers to connect, get to know each other and share experiences. This opportunity to vent and support each other was highly valued.

2. Reflection on their roleThe programme gave them a space to reflect on issues they often take for granted. It allowed them to reconsider and improve their emotional approach to certain situations.

3. Emotional validationThey learned to validate their emotions instead of repressing or ignoring them. The programme helped them distinguish between demand and excellence, enabling them to better manage their emotional baggage.

4. Empathy and prioritisationThe programme strengthened their empathy and taught them to prioritise their responsibilities more effectively.

5. Reconnecting with their vocational purposeOne of the highlights was that the workers were able to reflect on the purpose behind their work. They recognised the importance of their role and how their work brings value to the profession, the company and, above all, to the people they work with.

A collaborative relationship

Eva Fernández Aparicio finally underlined the importance of an fluid communication, adaptability and co-creation. The initiative to co-design a logo and the school's ability to respond to emerging demands, such as the incorporation of legal technical issues, demonstrated the school's flexibility and commitment of the EEC Consultancy team.

This second meeting of the 'EEC Corporate Talks' cycle, held on 28 September and moderated by Juan Luis Ayuso, Director of Corporate Development at EEC, highlighted the commitment of the Escuela Europea de Coaching to providing spaces for dialogue and learning on relevant issues in the corporate world and its people and the importance of adapting and responding to current challenges in different industries.
