The new ICF Mentor Coach Specialization (MCS) will be mandatory for practising as a Mentor Coach from 2027. During 2026, coaches who already have extensive experience as mentors will be able to apply for their MCS via professional experience, once they have received specific mentor education under the new ICF competencies for the mentor coach.

This 14-hour programme not only meets ICF requirements but also offers an opportunity to train alongside expert coaches and MCSs from EEC.

Obtaining the ICF Mentor Coach Specialization allows you to professionally support professional coaches in advancing their performance through different avenues when:

  • You trained at a school not accredited by the ICF and require an MCS to complete the required mentoring hours to apply for your credential.
  • Aspire to renew your ACC, PCC, or MCC credential
  • You want to continue training the key ICF competencies, regardless of your coaching training type.
  • It is being formed at an ICF-accredited school, and this requires specialised coaches who have obtained their MCS.

Who is the target audience?

Coaches wishing to apply for the new Mentor Coach Specialization (MCS) to ICF through the professional experience route.
- Coaches PCC or MCC who will be able to opt for the MCS PCC and the MCS MCC.
Teachers and mentors from ICF-accredited coaching schools, or teachers and mentors from non-accredited schools, who wish to strengthen their skills as a mentor coach to foster the growth of their students.
To all coaches who are detecting the need to acquire new knowledge and experience to work more effectively in the field of coaching.

Goals

The aim of this programme is to train mentor coaches to offer their services aligned with the new ICF mentor competencies. Upon completion of the programme, mentors, in addition to applying for their MCS from ICF, will be able to:

DEEPEN

in understanding the ICF's core competencies and associated behaviours.

DETECT

the presence or absence, in a coaching session, of the ICF core competencies and the credential level held by the coach.

PROVIDE

Feedback and tools for the coach to improve their demonstrated level and bring it closer to the required level, whether for a PCC or MCC coach.

IMPROVE

your coaching skills through the practices in which you will receive mentoring.

Methodology

The programme aims to provide a series of knowledge that will be enriched with PRACTICE and EXPERIENCE, respecting the coaching styles of each participant, favouring PARTICIPATION to create a space of openness and trust, and building from DIVERSITY.

Syllabus

MATCHDAY 1

The initial session aims to understand and practice the role of a mentor coach through dynamics, as well as the new competencies of a mentor coach. Participants will have the opportunity to learn about ICF's changes regarding the mentor coach role, as well as reflect on their performance and establish their growth plan within the programme.

MATCHDAY 2

Mentor Coaching Conversation / Agreement + Feedback / Practical Session 1 This journey will consist of practicing the mentor coach conversation, especially the keys to closing an appropriate agreement and to giving feedback that contributes to the mentee's growth. Peer practice will allow for collective learning.

These two days will be dedicated to practice, so that all students can train the competencies of the mentor coach, either directly or as observers who will provide feedback on the mentor's performance.
