The Spanish Diabetes Federation (FEDE) and the European Coaching School (EEC) have signed a collaboration agreement to bring coaching tools to people with diabetes associated with FEDE. This is an innovative and pioneering project in Spain with which the aim is to to offer new tools to this group to face the challenges of living with a chronic pathology..
As he explained Andoni Lorenzopresident of FEDEDiabetes is a complex pathology and it is not always easy to follow the prescribed treatment, adopt healthy habits or achieve the expected results, which causes situations of stress and even depression". As Lorenzo added, "the accompaniment of a coach can be of great help for people with diabetes to achieve the necessary level of empowerment, so that they have greater capacity and autonomy to face these difficulties".
Coaching to overcome the challenges of diabetes and help patients achieve their goals.
The first joint initiative to be carried out aims to support people with diabetes in their day-to-day lives by means of a Individual Coaching Programme which will start initially in Barcelona and Madrid, with which they will be able to strengthen their capacities and feel prepared to overcome their barriers. To this end, EEC will work together with the member associations of FEDE, facilitating the accompaniment sessions, which will be guided by professional coaches.
Eva López-AcevedoFounding Partner and Executive Director of EEC, explained that "coaching is a development tool related to achieving objectives and accompanying people, so that they are more aware of their own effectiveness in achieving results. In this sense, it is useful for anyone who is looking to achieve a challenge or a personal and/or professional goal that they are not achieving and who feels that an obstacle is holding them back".
These coaching processes can complementing the care that people with diabetes receive from their primary healthcare teamThe emotional and psychological aspects, which are so important in the treatment of the pathology, are reinforced.
In short, with this agreement FEDE seeks to provide one more tool through which people with diabetes feel prepared to take the most appropriate decisions in relation to the management of their diabetes, such as the adoption of healthy lifestyle habits or the improvement of adherence to their treatment, achieving, ultimately, an improvement in their quality of life.
