HR managers examine their own role as drivers of change

23 April 2015

HR directors from companies such as Axa Seguros, FCC, L’Oréal, MSD, and Diageo were among the participants who shared their perspectives on the need to drive organisational change from the People Management area. Alongside them, EEC founding partners Silvia Guarnieri and Eva López-Acevedo, and Rafael Atencia, Managing Director of Primeum, facilitated a discussion on people, strategies, change, and results.

Below are some of the comments shared that morning, which are featured in an extensive four-page report in the prestigious April issue, which can be read The Equipos y Talento website.

Eva López-Acevedo, EEC
“For a few years now, HR departments have moved from being considered a cost centre to a profit centre because they are the hinge between management and people.

Silvia Guarnieri, EEC
"We must make people understand that change is the constant and not the exception, and that when it arises, we must be creative with courage and bravery."

Carmen Polo, HR Director at Axa Insurance
“The era when HR was merely a provider of excellent processes has ended, and now we must exercise transformational leadership of people's emotions and behaviours within organisations.

Ana Lara, HR Director of Diageo
“The challenge for Human Resources is to be a business on the one hand, and to set an example of behaviour on the other. A permanent and essential element must also be communication: we must share what our common objective is and the path to achieve it.”.

Ana Villacañas, HR Director at FCC
“HR is the driver of change, acting as an agent in constant contact with the people in the organisation. To achieve this, we must be global, not specific, and international; coaches and even mentors, and we must rely on team leaders, who should also be facilitators of change.

Rafael Atencia, Managing Director of Primeum
“We believe that our activity, which focuses on variable remuneration systems, should incorporate people management, as change can also be driven by incentives.

Elena Esparza, HR Director of Professional Products Division at L'Oréal
“We have to get ahead of the business because they look to us. We are the ones who have a transversal vision and know what behaviours and structure we will need for future business needs.

Ana del Val, HR Director of L'Oréal's Active Cosmetics Division
“In addition to piloting a local transformational change, one must also try to escalate it to headquarters to transform policies as well.”

Alfonso Mostacero, HR Director at MSD
“I believe in the transformation of both organisations and individuals. In our industry, it takes 10 to 12 years to bring a molecule to market, and along those lines, I like to analyse organisational transformation in the medium to long term.
