A tool for motivation, Ariel Etbul in The 20 Year Windows

20 October 2023

In October, the 20 minutes of the cycle Las Ventanas de los 20 años (20 Years Windows) that the Escuela Europea de Coaching programmes every month to commemorate its 20th anniversary, have been dedicated to a recurrent and universal theme, motivation.

Coach, facilitator of Escuela Europea de Coaching and speaker at the event, Ariel Atbul, shared his knowledge about motivation through a tool which he has been using for years with his coaching clients and also with himself.

Under the title "The 7 elements of motivation" the participants had the opportunity not only to understand these seven elements arranged in a practical tool, and also to learn how to work with it.

The foundations of motivation

For coach Ariel Atbul "instead of talking about being motivated or unmotivated, it is important to understand how much of each element you need in your life to feel motivated".

"Money," he explained, "can be an extrinsic motivator, but its effectiveness can be limited, especially in creative jobs. Human beings seek to belong to something bigger than themselves. Feeling part of a group or story is important for motivation.he went on to explain.

Recognition, which involves being valued by others and receiving feedback for the work done, also affects the formula, and lack of recognition can lead to demotivation. "Having new challenges and aspirations for self-improvement is essential to maintain motivation.

"Personal pleasure is important for motivation and must be satisfied in order to stay motivated," he explained, before asking the audience to make a personal work and self-knowledge using this tool to assess their own needs at this moment in time in relation to motivation.

Tool for the coach

As a tool, the coach recommended to his fellow coaches to use in order to make a analysis of the state of motivation of customers and how to prior step to setting up an action plan without forgetting that the result shows a snapshot of the day or the vital moment in which the person is in relation to his or her specific needs, whether work-related or personal.

As a farewell, the coach invited the participants to work individually with the tool during the weekend, encouraging them to dedicate some personal time to find out what they need to feel more motivated.
