- Your name: Gonzalo Bermejo
- Title of the book: 'How to learn from your child's disability. Coaching for parents of children with special needs'.
- Author: Gonzalo Bermejo
- Publication date: September 2021
- What did you find the book useful and what did you like the most?
On the one hand, to think about everything I have experienced as a parent of a child with a disability, to be aware of what I have done well and above all what I could have done better, to learn lessons, etc... And on the other hand, to put myself in the place of other parents who are in a similar situation in order to try to help them.
The most positive thing is undoubtedly the feedback I receive from the people who have read it, how much they identify with what I have written.
- What learnings from the book relate most to the way you experience coaching?
More than my way of living coaching, I would say that coaching is part of my life. In other words, I have managed to incorporate the concepts/distinctions of coaching that I explain in the book into my daily life in a natural way.
- Any moments of insight during your reading?
As I mentioned before, during the writing of the book, I have been able to review my role as an 'atypical' parent, which has allowed me to become more aware of my strengths and weaknesses.
- What tools from the book can be used in a coaching process?
Really all of them. Although I obviously focus my coaching tips, concepts and disciplines on the world of disability, they can be applied to almost any coaching process.
- At what point in the learning process as coaches might it be advisable to read it?
I think it can be positive during the certification as a Coach, as it would help to better understand these distinctions, with concrete examples, but also later on, as a Certified Coach, as it can bring a new vision of the application of coaching.
