The expert master coach and psychologist, Rosa Barriuso<\/strong>\u00a0facilitated a meeting focused on the\u00a0The value of respect in the education of adolescents<\/strong>, inviting parents, educators and coaches to reflect from a clear premise:\u00a0To teach respect, we first need to learn to respect<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

An activity held as part of the ICF International Coaching Week, as well as for EEC Alumni, which brought together nearly a hundred people, who have the opportunity to delve deeper into Rosa's proposal with Rosa on the programme. Specialisation in Adolescents and Families<\/a>, which she herself teaches at EEC.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A systemic look at adolescence<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

During the activity, Rosa Barriuso suggested understanding adolescence as a\u00a0Bridge stage<\/strong>\u00a0marked by insecurity, trial and error, in which learning occurs to a large extent by\u00a0modelling<\/strong>Teenagers learn more from what they see than from what they are told.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A useful distinction was also highlighted to better accompany: Separate the person from their behaviour.<\/strong>. It is possible to maintain unconditional respect for a teenager's identity while also educating them about boundaries and behaviour.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Three practical keys to maintaining respect in teen relationships<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Rosa Barriuso shared three concrete levers for nurturing the bond without sacrificing educational authority:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

  1. Listening<\/strong>\u00a0as a \u201cthermometer\u201d of respect: when a person feels heard, they feel validated.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  2. The trials<\/strong>To recognise that our opinions are not universal and that humility (not arrogance) opens conversation.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  3. Emotions<\/strong>to legitimise emotion and educate expression (\u201cemotion is legitimated, expression is educated\u201d).<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n

    Throughout the session, a particularly relevant idea was also worked on: not to blame the other person for what happens to me<\/strong>and to train self-regulation to avoid falling into reactive loops.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    A closing with a lot of truth<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

    Towards the end, a session for questions and real-life cases opened up. Among the most powerful reflections, Rosa pointed out how, sometimes,\u00a0We treat those we love the worst.<\/strong>, precisely because of the fear that appears when we love. And he closed with a direct invitation:\u00a0\u201cI can't give what I don't have\u201d<\/em>, so respect for others begins with\u00a0Self-respect<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
